Depression=spending??

Yes–that’s right. What do I do when I’m stressed and depressed? I shop. Plain and simple. Best if you do it drunk–at least, that’s my approach to on-line purchases except I tend to remember the little indiscretion in the morning when I see my credit card lying on the table like scandalous lingerie. Today I had clam nigiri sushi, bought 4 summer blouses with wonderfully embroidered hems, and a pair of lounge pants with a classic vertical print that reminds me of spring in an English cottage. In my defense I’ve been in sore need of blouses and they drape beautifully accenting my small upper frame and modestly hiding the rest. My next purchase that lay behind double panes of perfectly polished glass are Chanel or Gucci sunglasses–I prefer the logo to be discreet yet noticeable: two overlapping crystal Cs where the lenses meet the temples. Is that too much to ask?

I also bought a purse for my loli outfit *sigh* But if I’m going to go all out I hate for one part to be glaringly absent. At least, it’s absent to me which translates as obvious to everyone else because it’s revealed in my body language. If you have a beautiful dress, lace petticoats, polished leather shoes with bows and criss-crossing straps, and perfectly pressed striped socks would you settle for just any bag? I don’t think so. Plus–I’m a brand whore. Maybe that should be the title of my blog! (in all sincerity–I’m not joking). The dress and petticoat are from Baby, the pearl necklace from Alice & the Pirates, the socks from Metamorphose, and the purse is from Innocent World. I was economical with the shoes–lovingly purchased from Ebay. Matching black rose earrings and ring I put together from Etsy–all in all it’s been a work of love. I need to figure out what to do with my hair though…and getting in the car is definitely like shoving a cream puff through a key hole. I get so hot!! And it’s not because it’s black–it’s the sheer effort of getting ready and putting on 200 things. I always wondered why I get super dehydrated when I try on clothes…

Paycheck Indulgence

This always happens when I get a new job—I spend the first 2 paychecks–usually the first one is necessity based like work clothes. Here’s what happened this time…

QT&E

1st paycheck:

  1. Anthropologie–2 pairs of work pants
  2. Amazon.com–3 books
  3. Tanglewood–took mom out to lunch

2nd paycheck:

  1. J.Crew–2 sweaters, 1 polo, 1 pair of shorts (I don’t own any ><) & 2 bracelets I’ve been drooling over for a year
  2. American Eagle–my 1 pair of flip flops for the year
  3. Macy’s Valley Fair: 1 brown pair of casual shoes (I don’t have any brown casual)

I’m very happy tho–not too guilt-stressed–I bought things I super needed and wanted. I haven’t seen anything good at J. Crew for a really long time and haven’t been able to afford it either. I needed shoes and taking mom out to lunch is always fun. Buying books is my one frivolous addiction I have whenever I’m feeling really happy/successful. Now that I thinkabout it tho I don’t think there’s a single article of clothing I’ve ever bought purely because I liked it…it’s always something I needed. I never shop blindly–I always have something in mind before I go in. (well, maybe 1 or 2 blouses for fun, mostly in college) lol

Dooney & Bourke

    I finally caved and bought a Dooney & Bourke purse–not too expensive for a brand name, about $200. It’s gorgeous–just the right size for a roomy business purse. I loved the sigs on the side and it has a checkered pink interior. The outside is the classic beige with black and black leather handles. Very cute.

    I almost went for Jimmy Choo shoes but the way I treat business shoes that I have to walk 8hrs a day in–it wouldn’t be pretty. Expensive shoes I’d save to wear on those special nights out. I really want to go to the designer finale at Nordstrum’s–everything is significantly marked down nearly 40%. I also liked the Gucchi and Manolo’s….so tempting!! >< But I was good and bought comfy Borns for work and a nice sleek black pair, low heel of course lol

    I spent a lot today but I absolutely needed it–I don’t buy because I feel like it–I buy because I need to. I run shoes into the ground then replace them. The same with purses except this one I plan to be extra nice to like my Italian leather tote. The heels on my last pair of shoes actually started to crumble and the seams on another were unravelling! They weren’t necessarily cheap either–a pretty sizable investment but it’s worth it for shoes that last a year and are comfy and allow your feet room to breathe. That’s why I usually go with leather–Born shoes are so scrumptiously comfy with soft, supple leather and cushioned insoles. And the detail is amazing–they use natural dyes for most of them. The one I picked is a rich mahogany–almost burgundy in color like a deep, oakey red wine. At least these purchases I don’t feel so bad about–I used to stress and worry about spending too much.
